Additional Forms Required in Idaho
- Application for Certificate of Title (Form ITD 3337)
- Bill of Sale (Form ITD 3738)
Idaho requires a bill of sale for private party vehicle transactions. The bill of sale must include the names and addresses of both parties, vehicle identification details, sale price, and date of sale.
Idaho charges a 6% sales tax on vehicle purchases, paid at the county assessor's office during the title transfer process. The buyer has 30 days to file at a county motor-vehicle office (using Form ITD 3337 for the title application and Form ITD 3738 as the state bill-of-sale), or a $20 late-filing penalty applies.
For out-of-state vehicles being titled in Idaho for the first time, a VIN inspection is required. Notarization is not required for the bill of sale, but both parties should sign the document and retain copies.
