Additional Forms Required in Nevada
- VP-104 (Bill of Sale)
- Smog/emissions inspection (Clark and Washoe counties)
Nevada requires a bill of sale for all private party vehicle transactions. The state has one of the higher combined tax rates in the nation, with county-specific rates that can reach 8.375% or more in areas like Clark County (Las Vegas).
Smog checks are required in Clark County and Washoe County for most vehicles before title transfer. Rural counties are generally exempt from this requirement. A Vehicle Inspection Certificate (VP 104) may also be required.
The buyer has 30 days to transfer the title at a Nevada DMV office. Notarization is not required, but both parties must sign the bill of sale. Nevada also charges a governmental services tax based on the vehicle's depreciated value.
