Additional Forms Required in New Hampshire
- Title Application (Form TDMV 19A)
New Hampshire requires a bill of sale for vehicle transfers. The state charges no sales tax, making it one of the most affordable states for vehicle purchases.
Notably, New Hampshire does not issue titles for vehicles of model year 1999 or earlier (a fixed cutoff under NH RSA 261:3, not a rolling age). For these older vehicles, the bill of sale plus the prior registration becomes the primary document proving ownership. This makes a thorough bill of sale especially important when buying an older vehicle.
Registration is handled through the local town or city clerk's office. Form TDMV 19A is required for title applications on newer (post-1999) vehicles.
