The price you print is not automatically the duty base. Service NSW charges 3% up to $45,000 of market value and 5% beyond, taking whichever is higher of the printed sale price or its own market-value assessment — so a $30,000 sale carries $900 of duty and a $50,000 one $1,600 regardless of creative pricing.
Exemption: Spouse and de facto partner transfers, and some categories like primary production vehicles, can escape duty — check the concession with Revenue NSW before paying.
Inspection / Roadworthy Requirements
Add a line for the Pink Slip when the printed year shows the vehicle is 5 or older: the eSafety check must be current (42-day validity) for the buyer's registration transfer. A newer vehicle usually skips it, though an ownership change can still trigger one — Service NSW is the arbiter.
