Nebraska Bill of Sale Requirements
Additional Forms Required in Nebraska
- Application for Certificate of Title
- Nebraska DOR Form 6 (Bill of Sale)
Nebraska requires a bill of sale for vehicle sales. Unlike many states, Nebraska does NOT require notarization on either the bill of sale or the title assignment β the state abolished the notary requirement on titles some years ago. The buyer has 30 days to complete the title transfer at the county treasurer's office using the Application for Certificate of Title and Nebraska DOR Form 6 (Bill of Sale) or equivalent.
Nebraska charges a 5.5% state sales tax on vehicle purchases, plus applicable local taxes (typically up to 2%). All taxes are paid during the registration process.
Both buyer and seller should sign the bill of sale and retain copies. While notarization isn't required, it can still help in resolving any later disputes.
