Additional Forms Required in Oklahoma
- Form 701-6 (Application for Oklahoma Certificate of Title)
- Form 722-1 (Declaration of Vehicle Purchase Price, when used)
Oklahoma requires a bill of sale and notarized title for vehicle transfers. The state charges a 3.25% excise tax on vehicle purchases as the primary vehicle transaction tax.
The buyer has 30 days to complete the title transfer at a Service Oklahoma location (or licensed tag agent) using Form 701-6. Title services moved from the Oklahoma Tax Commission to Service Oklahoma in January 2023. Required documents include the notarized title, bill of sale, proof of insurance, and valid identification.
Notarization of the title assignment is mandatory, and it is strongly recommended to have the bill of sale notarized as well. Oklahoma does not require emissions testing for standard vehicle transfers.
