- Vehicle Registration Application
Arkansas law requires a bill of sale for all private party vehicle transactions. The sale price must be clearly documented on the bill of sale, as the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) uses this information to assess the appropriate sales tax.
Arkansas imposes a 6.5% state sales tax on vehicle purchases. Buyers must also pay applicable county and city taxes when registering the vehicle. The buyer has 60 days from the date of sale to complete the title transfer at a local DFA revenue office, with sales-tax and registration penalties assessed after that deadline.
While notarization is not required, it is recommended for higher-value transactions. Both the seller and buyer should sign the bill of sale and retain copies. The seller should also complete a seller notification to the DFA to release liability for the vehicle after the sale.
