Virginia requires an annual safety inspection for all registered vehicles. When purchasing a used vehicle, the buyer should verify the vehicle has a current inspection sticker or plan to have the vehicle inspected after purchase.
The buyer has 30 days to complete the title transfer at a Virginia DMV office using Form VSA 17A. Required documents include the signed bill of sale, vehicle title, proof of insurance, and valid identification. Notarization is not required, but both parties should sign the bill of sale.
